memorial wknd re-cap

Well, it's nice to be back in sunny FL, people. DC is great for the wknd, but no fun place to live (sorry DC folks)

I flew into Baltimore late Friday evening, and was so happy to see my sweet hubby waiting for me. It's only been 2 weeks since I've seen him, and seeing his smiling face was good for my soul.

Saturday, I hung out at the hotel for a few hrs while Nick finished up work. We had lunch at the most amazing BBQ place ever! "Texas Ribs & BBQ" in Clinton, MD. Guy Fieri from Food Network even featured them on his show. De-lish!

That evening, we did some shopping (massive H&M, ladies) and got some dinner at this little itallian place that was recommended to us called "Mama Stella's" (we were not impressed).

Sunday, we spent the day in DC again. Nick wanted to visit The National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial. Really amazing. To see the names of hundred's of thousands of men and women, all over the US that sacrificed their lives for our protection. Truly a humbling experience.

That evening, we had our favorite, Bonefish Grill, and watched "Wedding Crashers" back at the hotel. Why is it still so funny, even 20 times later?

Monday, we upgraded our phones. iPhone :) Somehow my smart phone makes me feel really dumb :(
Then off to the airport...again.
Goodbye's never get any easier. Another 2 weeks, and he will be home for good!

How was your weekend?
Lots of love,
K

happy long wknd

Tonight I am flying to Washington DC yet again. Yes, I was there last month too. Nick is still away on business, and will be for a few more weeks, sadness. A girls' gotta do what a girls' gotta do, right?

So I'm off (with my pretty polished coral nails and matching toes) to spend a nice, relaxing wknd with my hubby in a city full of fun things to do :)

Have a wonderfully fun, & safe Memorial Day wknd, friends. What are your plans?

Love,
K

my kind of wedding

Have you seen the pic's from Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert's wedding?

How cute are they? If I could ever "re-do" my wedding, I would totally copy theirs: Outside, mason jars, fireflies, hydranga's, hand picked sun dresses and cowboy boots, her mama's dress, handwritten vows, antler chandelier's hanging with crystals, I. Love. Everything! Now some of you might think, "Really? That is so red neck." But I think a little bit of country makes life a whole lot sweeter.

Now don't get me wrong, I loved my wedding, and it will always be a beautiful day I will never forget...but I was so concerned with making everyone else happy, that I lost track of what I truly wanted. And I married a country boy for crying out loud!

I feel a vow renewal comin' up soon :)

If you have not seen their pic's yet, check em out. Looks like one fun party!

Love,
K

Proverbs 27:17 NIV
As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NIV
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work; If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!

I had two dear friends (and two mini ladies) over for dinner last night. One is home visiting from Texas, and the other I see on a pretty regular basis. We had sweet conversation, lots of laughs, and seeing their growing families brings such joy to my heart. It was a much needed girls night, and I am thankful it worked out for us all to be together.

Thank you Amy for taking this sweet pic...mad skills with one hand!

happy weekend

One great weekend...in a nutshell...

Dinner with my Aunt Pat at Mekinita's. Always the highlight of my week.

Need to find a place for this in my house. Ahhh! Love it!

My basil is growing like crazy!! Want some?

Learned to make Chili's Molten Lava Cake in my own kitchen. Just call me Mrs. Amazing.

Couldn't find Cowboy this morning...apparently, we both feel the same way about Monday mornings.

keeping the flame

My Mom, (love her)  passed down an old Oprah magazine she had just finished reading. She found a treasured article that I must read.

And so I did. Why do Mom's STILL know everything you STILL don't know?

Funny how the right thing comes your way...just when you need it. Allow me to share this little nugget with you.

Keeping the Flame
In praise of the bright thing inside us.

By: Patti Smith

"When I was young, everything seemed so simple. I felt the calling toward art and literature, so I decided I would be a writer and pen a magical book like Peter Pan or Alice in Wonderland. But no matter how fixed I was on my path, something always drew me away and I trampled unexpected roads with great twists and turns. And what I learned is that we are all Pinocchio: We begin our life, waving to our mother and father with our schoolbooks in hand, hoping to do well. But we turned this way and that. We make mistakes, we move from our course, we falter, flounder, and may suffer remorse, rebellion, or a sense of defeat. We seem to loose our way. But no matter! If we keep our little flame alive, our first feeling of enthusiasm of who we are, without the influence or intervention of others, we will prevail. And like Pinocchio, despite all his transgressions, find the courage to reunite with our little flame and be rewarded. And the reward is this: We become ourselves.
In my life I have made many mistakes. Sometimes I was careless and inconsiderate of others. Fate drew me to singing and performng around the world, and yet this was not what I dreamed for myself-sometimes I felt it took me from my true path, that of a writer. But I found performing  brought me closer to the people. It gave me an opportunity to travel, to explore, to communicate, and concern myself with my fellow man.
In 1979 I gave up my life in the arena of rock' n 'roll to marry and raise a family, another divergence from my pursuit as a solitary artist. But through my family I learned the final lesson of Pinocchio-what it is like to be human. And always through everything, through sacrifice and success, I have tried to stay close to my little flame, reminding me of who I am.
The cricket tells Pinocchio, 'Always let your conscience be your guide.' These words, by a small, insignificant insect, give us all we need. The best person to tell you who you are, what you should be. is ultimately yourself."

Get you thinking?

I thought so.

K

a few things

Hi!

My posts have been a little less up to date...sorry y'all, just a little bit of life.

Anyways, we had a great weekend. Nick got to come home for a few days...which was such a blessing for us both. He needed a little rest/chill-axin time to refuel before heading back to DC for a few weeks.

First on the agenda, he requested some good home cookin'. Poor guy was tired of fast food and eating out. So chicken and dumplings, and one delicious coconut cake comin' right up

We also got some much needed sleep and finally watched the past few weeks of shows we've missed on our T-vo (love that thing).

After church on Sunday, we spent the afternoon with Nick's family for Mother's Day. Missed having my Mama so far away :( I love being with family! It was a really nice day.

Oh, before I go...

*Ladies, check out Lauren Conrad's new website http://www.thebeautydepartment.com/
my new favorite!
*Don't waste your time or money on drive through car wash's during love bug season. It just makes you mad.
*Just started reading "Something Borrowed" by Emily Giffin. Great book! Have you seen the movie yet?

Happy Tuesday, people. Hope your day is wonderful!

Love,
K

Anniversary wknd in DC

Last Thursday evening, I flew to Washington DC to spend the weekend with my hubby. He has been there for the past few weeks on business.

Quick Recap:

Thursday evening: Arrived at Ronald Regan International Airport. Nick picked me up, and took me over to the jobsite he has been working on. So proud of him! Crashed early back at the hotel.

Friday: Woke up at 5:30 am. Did you watch it?

Wasn't she just stunning? Such a beautiful ceremony.
Then Nick headed off to work for a few hours, and I headed down to breakfast...I just love breakfast, and then back up to the room to study for my final for a few hours. That afternoon, we set out to explore the city of Clinton, and had dinner at Bonefish. One of our fav's.

Saturday, we woke up early and headed into DC. We covered most of it on foot. Needless to say, we were a little tired, but it was totally worth every minute!

The Lincoln Memorial just gave me chills. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

Later that night, we drove into National Harbor, and had dinner at Graces Mandarin http://www.gracesrestaurants.com/mandarin.html
to celebrate our 5th anniversary! I am so proud of where we are today, and where we have come from. I feel incredibly blessed to have a life so rich with love and respect. My cup runneth over!

After dinner, we toured the rest of National Harbor. Such a sweet place for a date night.

Sunday we found our way into Georgetown and did some shopping. It was cold and rainy, but the streets were packed! It was a lovely last afternoon together before Nick took me back to the airport for my returning flight home :( It's going to be a long 4 weeks without him.

If you have the opportunity to go to DC, please do. You will not regret it.

Happy hump day, friends.

Love,
K
